Post Ten: Team Work

Team Work

part one: days leading up to the presentation

Since my last post we have had several phone call meetings between three or all of us. If someone can't attend a meeting we fill them in with the main points covered and concluded in the meeting. Jack is in control of designing the whole presentation as well as creating the introduction and conclusion. We all come together to create the presentation in a call and guide Jack as we see him edit in real time on Google Slides. We chose google slides as its user friendly and we can all edit it together.
We decided to create a script separate that we can all read from while presenting. This will hopefully result in a clear and concise as well as good structured presentation and ensures we cover everything we have to say. It also ensures no one freezes and forgets what to say while presenting.
We found that a couple of our calls were unnecessary and we'd write our individual pieces better if we did the alone before our call rather than trying to write them together during a meeting.
To date we have done all our research and we are now just structuring the presentation and script. We are deciding on the style of presentation such as how formal we should be.

part two: day of and before the presentation

The day before the presentation we had a group call to read through and organise the project for presentation. We has 90 % of our script and presentation complete by this stage. Denisa could only stay on call for the first 15 minutes so she just ran through all the information she gathered and explained her slides to us. We decided to have a meeting the next day before the presentation so it was okay for her not to be there. After she left Luke, Jack and I started brainstorming the introductory piece and the final few words. Luke had prepared a small closing that we incorporated into the final conclusion we all created together. Our aim was to be positive and encouraging and I feel like we really mastered that. I feel like after seeing what information everyone got we were really growing in strength as a group. Everyone had their strengths like everyone had really good quality sourced information and I felt I used engaging English skills with rhetorical questions to keep the audience listening to our message. We planned that we'd all complete of last few bits for the next day so we could have a final edit and read through before the presentation that night. Everyone did just what they were meant to and we had a really successful time reading through our work and cutting down on some of the script as our initial reading time went up to 15 minutes. Everything was perfected and we could all relax for the next couple of hours before presenting.

As we were logged into Second Life to present, Denisa discovered she could not get her mic to work or hear what people were saying. We quickly devised a plan on Whatsapp to inform the lecturers and Luke would speak for Denisa. This worked out really well in the end. I feel like we really bonded as a team and our work showcased that. After the presentation we all were overjoyed and Denisa was praising us and thankful. It was a huge success despite having a few hiccups of communication at the beginning of the semester. Everyone really pulled together and worked hard and we communicated really efficiently near the end as well as positively.
